As of last week, the World Health organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic. What does this mean? It means that the virus is now widespread and beginning to affect lives all over the world. Should you be worried? NO, but you should be aware always. Should you take travel advice and precaution? YES. There is no point in panicking, because if you stay careful, you will be safe from it.
Fortunately, the numbers of new cases in China have dropped. However other parts of the world are still struggling to contain the virus. Scientists and medical experts all over the world are dedicating huge amounts of time and effort towards research and investigation into this illness; seeing how we can fight this pandemic. Tanzania may not have many cases at the moment, but the country has taken strong measures to control the situation. As we pray for health and healing, here are some facts you may want to keep in mind:
Yes, many countries are shutting borders or closing airports. You are safer at home. However, if you do happen to already be here, keep a distance from people who seem unwell during your travels, avoid shaking hands and observe basic hygiene. It is important that you remain super cautious at airports, where you are likely to meet lots of people from all over the world. Safety during this time cannot be guaranteed anywhere. So watch out for your own health and that of your loved ones. Spend time with family at home and indulge in a hobby you like.
You could possibly postpone your trip to Tanzania and plan it for later this year. We have some awesome Group Tours coming up later, and plenty of other options to choose from. Climb Mount Kilimanjaro, go on a safari or simply relax by the beaches in Zanzibar!
See, there is always light at the end of the tunnel!
Remember, it is normal that many of us are panicking, but you must remain calm and just simply follow all the reports coming from WHO; AND also take all recommended precautions seriously.
